The Incredible Lightness of Being

I used to be such a Bodyrock.tv enthusiast. I loved their short, mostly bodyweight, Tabata-style high intensity workouts. I discovered the site over the summer and it really motivated me to work out at home… and the cost was right… free!

Now, however, I am more often than not disturbed when images from the site show up on my Facebook feed. (By the way, I have “unliked” Bodyrock on Facebook, but it keeps showing up in my feed… what’s up with that?)

Read my blog post for a little of the history of the site’s recent drama, but even then, I loved the site because it focused on working out. But now, I am fed up and disturbed by what I am seeing. 

The sexualization of Zuzana on the site was something I accepted. It wasn’t too over the top, and even though sex does certainly sell… the site at its core was focused on giving you amazing workouts.

Freddie’s camerawork zoomed in and out on Zuzana’s breasts and butt, and her heavy breathing was a tad embarrassing when I was working out in front of my husband and sons, but I just dealt with it because Zuzana also presented herself as someone whose past was behind her, and that she wanted to spread a message of fitness, self-acceptance and  healthy transformation. 

But now, with Zuzana gone, Lisa-Marie has stepped in as the female host and something weird is happening with her and her image. She started out as this spunky, slim, high-energy tomboyish presence. I didn’t really connect with her, but at the same time, I thought she brought something quirky and different to the site.

Then came the shots of her workout out in her underwear… a lot of them…

Ok. One might argue that there is no real difference in the amount of skin shown in the undies shots and some other workout wear… but in my opinion I don’t want to see an eyeful of labia when I’m working out. But maybe that’s just me… call me strange…

At this point I was still sort of halfway waving the Bodyrock flag, but mostly transitioning into Zuzana’s ZWOWs. 

And then the Facebook page began filling with postings upon postings about Lisa and her boob job. We got video updates.

Photos of Freddie taking her to see the plastic surgeon. (How kind and un-self-serving of him.) Hmm… is there any reason why this guy is always hidden behind sunglasses?

And lots and lots of pictures and discussion about Lisa-Marie and her implants and her new and improved breasts, along with some workouts named after them. And notes from Lisa-Marie gushing about her new BOOBS!!! 

ok, those who do know… may not know that I go on MONDAY !!!!!! So you lucky few (who are interested in the in’s and out’s) I will be starting my ”Boob” Video Diary from when I go down to Toronto on Sunday Night :D.. It’s so exciting …. I can’t sit here and say I am not a bit nervous, because I am… lol. So I will film everyday and post so you can see it allll as it unfolds … and of course I am excited to see what you think of the size etc… and i am sure you will have questions, which I am more than happy to answer :)) as always.

Now, of course if you post photos of yourself working out in your underwear and photos of you in your hospital gown before undergoing breast augmentation, people are going to respond, with various opinions, not all encouraging. Which leads to those who respond “negatively” are called HATERS!!! and told they are jealous and not gushing enough “positivity” (whatever that is).

The site has now become this strange combination of oversharing, defensiveness, sex-sells opportunism and censorship of opposing views. We’ve recently learned that Lisa-Marie and Freddie are dating, and just today with a caption that says “Surprising Freddie,” she shows us her new hair extensions post boob job. Did she have her lips done, too?

Zuzana

Does anyone else get a creepy feeling from all this self re-invention? Is Freddie on the rebound and encouraging Lisa-Marie to remake herself into another version of Zuzana? Why do Lisa-Marie’s eyes look nonhuman in her latest photo? Is the transformation from human to Bodyrock Barbie complete?

Or, is this a business model and Lisa-Marie is just part of a marketing plan that was successful with Zuzana? Increase traffic by appealing to men who have no interest in the workouts, just the pictures?

I am feeling a little concerned for Lisa-Marie at this point. Is she doing all this to please her man? Does she have to do all this to please Freddie? Is he fitness-pimping her out? My understanding is that he is looking for more female hosts. Will they become Bodyrock Stepford girlfriends, too? Run away girls, while you can!

Isn’t fitness about becoming healthier, and having a healthy self-image? I thought Bodyrock was a fitness site, but it seems to be a site that teaches you “how to be sexy.” 

I hope Lisa-Marie doesn’t feel that she needs to get even more surgery to be sexy.  What’s next, butt implants? Well, as for me, I guess I’ll just keep on doing my workouts at home. I’m sticking with ZWOW for now. 

What’s even freakier, is that the same day Lisa-Marie shows off her new look for Freddie, Freddie’s younger brother Sean (who also is a host on the site) posts photos of himself getting tattooed… with FREDDIE’S initials? 

Dude, don’t you have a girlfriend (or boyfriend)? 

What kind of strange power does Freddie have over these people? Seems like everyone on the site is altering their bodies to please Freddie! Bodyrock mind control. For the love of God, please make it stop!
